अ डे तो गो दोवं इन हिस्ट्री A day to go down in History
What an unbelievable day! Chris and I got up at sunrise, made huevos con papas from the market, drank some cafe and hit the road. Rather chilly at the base of the mountain, probably low 60's. We started Yankee Clipper, the name of the climb behind 2 parties ahead of us. By the 4th pitch we were in the sun and things were heating up. Chris mentioned that he should have gone to the bathroom before we started, and I said, "yeah, i went, you should have". So i'm climbing up above him, asking for rope and he isn't giving any. Finally I get to the belay station and start to belay him up to me. Then all of a sudden I smell something awful. The rope turns brown and I quickly gag. I grabbed some cactus and used it carefully to lift him up, all the while cursing loudly and angrily. Chris gets up to me and describes his situation. He had been belaying me and all of a sudden an explosion out of his pants, he quickly dropped his draws and shat all over the rock below him. And yes,, there were people climbing a couple hundred feet below us and all around, surely many saw this happen. He did have some toilet paper which is now a part of the rock wall. But he managed to cover himself, the rope, the wall, the route, both our belay devices, and all our quickdraws with his shit. Absolutely disgusting. Probably the most fowl experience of my life. Surely of his. That Mexican food just gets ya. Anyways, we climbed for 7 more hours, and another 1000+ feet with a grosse rope and gear, but he let me wear his gloves and I cursed him for many hours. The summit was phenomenal, full 360 view of the Sierra Madres, Potrero, Hidalgo and everything else. We were exposed some 2000 feet to the West, with a steep valley far below. Magnificent. Plus the last pitch was a very hard sharp 5.12. Very difficult and I will be sore for days. For now it was 70 degrees outside, full moonish, lots of stars and wonderful here. Hope you are all well

Hi Dave, OMG!!! How horrible for Chris, especially now that yu posted this. Of course, I have all my clinic aides watching your journey unfold...but all I can say is it sounds phenomenal (see who needs to go across the world when there's so much righ here). Anyway...please wear a helmet when you climb. "to the world you are one person, but to one person (me) you are the world". I love you dave, come home safe.
